Vintage Kansai Yamamoto jacket

$1,500.00

We were going through the treasures in the archive and found this incredible piece. Vivian and Claudia are both collectors and trawling through their eclectic collections is like a visit to a museum. Look what we found!

This clever design from the 1980s is a take on the classic American college jacket, but Kansai plays with the idea by adding formal tails. The purple satin has applique trim, with the amusing message “7:00am Tuesday” emblazoned on the back. This vintage piece is from Vivian Chan Shaw’s private collection of international designer pieces and has never been worn. The original swing tags are still attached.

Kansai Yamamoto is one of the founding fathers of Japanese contemporary fashion. You may remember his outstanding designs for David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust tour in the early 1970s. Renowned for his avant garde kimono designs, his best known collections were created in the 1970s and 1980s. This exceptional satin jacket is a fine example of Kansai’s work.
